"Where your fear is, there is your task."  -Carl Jung

My clients come to see me because they can never relax. They are tense, worried, and irritable. Every small problem feels like the last straw, and they often find themselves snapping at their loved ones and then feeling guilty about it. They complain of a sense of dread for no reason, and feel like every day is a never-ending checklist of tasks to accomplish.

Anxiety is a feeling that everyone experiences, and can be quite useful in a number of ways. However, when it begins to impact your relationships, your work, and your ability to enjoy your life, you can benefit from treatment for anxiety in therapy.

Anxiety occurs for many reasons, including traumatic events, long periods of stress, stage of life changes, and other internal movements of the psyche. When you experience a traumatic event or long periods of stress, your brain can begin to think that it constantly needs to look out for threats. When your brain is in this mode, it is impossible to relax! Your brain is trying to protect you, but often my clients need to learn how to help these processes to integrate in helpful rather than harmful ways.

Our work together can go in a number of directions. I can teach you a number of relaxation techniques to give you skills to manage your daily stress. We can review how the brain and body works to keep you safe and rested. I find that the deeper work, in examining unconscious processes, has much richer and long-lasting effects in the treatment outcomes for my clients. We will discuss your goals and desires in the first several sessions to determine what will work best for you.

ABOUT ME

ABOUT THERAPY WITH ME

It is my job to create a safe space for you to explore the life challenges that you are bringing to therapy. You will find me to be kind, direct, nonjudgmental, irreverent, and I have been known to use humor now and then. Over the years I have worked with people from diverse cultures and walks of life, and I continue to grow and learn from each client that I see.

APPROACHES

Jungian Analysis is a rich process of examination and integration of your unconscious processes. This type of therapy is based on the work of C.G. Jung, and often works with the symbols and imagery presented in dreams, artwork, and other creative modalities. This work focuses on what Jung calls individuation, or the further development into one's own unique and true Self.

Trauma Approaches - I utilize a number of approaches in the treatment of anxiety and trauma. These include EMDR and somatic approaches, among others. Most people experiencing anxiety or trauma feel at war with themselves in a variety of ways. I will work with you to transform even those parts of you that are making you miserable. Working in their rightful roles, those irritating functions can become helpful assets, leaving you with a greater sense of ease.

Reviews from previous clients...

"My therapy sessions with Lindsey represent one of the most important inflection points in my life. I initially started seeing Lindsey to deal with specific life circumstances, and had I come out of those sessions with only the tools to get me through that period I would have viewed therapy as a huge success, but I got so much more than that. Lindsey, through her relaxed non-judgmental approach, helped me identify and deal with deeper issues that I had never addressed before. Long story short I came out of those sessions a much happier and more empathetic person than I was before. I would strongly recommend Lindsey to anyone looking for a therapist." - Chuck

"When I met Lindsey I was a hot mess. I doubted my parenting skills, I was almost afraid of my young teen daughter and her mysterious behaviors, and felt unsupported in my marriage. What Lindsey taught me was how to dig deep and find what was true, accept my anxiety, and find the strength with which it actually empowers me. Lindsey used a combination of visualization, laughter, “telling it like it is,” and real, everyday language - gifts that no other therapist has ever shown me. Sometimes I didn’t feel like going but once I got there I never once regretted pulling myself together and hearing Lindsey’s no-nonsense and colorful observations. Never letting me off the hook, Lindsey gave no advice; what she did do was dole out reflections of the truth of the moment. With her coaching, joking, and being there for me, I am stronger and very changed. As Lindsey says, there was always a $#itstorm, but now I can say out loud, 'Hey! This is a $#itstorm!”'and deal." - Kim K., Centennial

"My daughter was 15 years old at the time. I was very concerned about her behavior. We met Lindsey for a counseling session. My husband and myself and my daughter. It turns out I needed the counseling myself. My husband was an alcoholic and drug addict. When I first started I was very depressed and living life in a blur. I was a complete mess. She was always very caring and supportive. She is so down to earth she put me at ease immediately. She suggested I see the Dr. to check my medication. It turns out that my medication was changed and made a huge difference in my state of mind. She helped me through a divorce and my daughter graduating and going off to college and into my current life. I don't know where I would be right now if I had not sought help from Lindsey. She is a lifesaver! I am now doing very well. She is an absolute Angel! I can't say enough good about her. I am very grateful that everything turned out as it did. I have tried counseling many times before with no success. I have learned not to be so hard on myself. She is truly great at her job!" -Kay J.

"I believe that Lindsey is a truly gifted therapist...it is second nature to her. Prior to seeing Lindsey I had weathered one family crisis after another for many years, and did not foresee my situation changing much in the near future... I had found it increasingly difficult to focus at work, harder to enjoy the little things in life, and near to impossible to leave town for fear that something terrible would happen while I was gone. I realized that I was just miserably waiting for the next shoe to drop... all as a result of my increasing anxiety. Lindsey has had an interesting way of basically assisting me down a path of self- acceptance and growth by allowing me to figure things out without actually giving advice...but instead merely leading the conversation with maybe a question here, a comment there, and of course the use of her wonderful analogies. I have been able to live again and enjoy life as a result of her ability to help me look within and learn to control my thought processes and anxiety level. When I look back to where I was and where I am now it is truly amazing to realize that she was able to get me to this place of comfort. As I said, she is truly gifted as a therapist...and also as an individual. Also, I must add that if you want to learn to laugh again...She's the best!!" - Deb
